On September 18th, about 20 believers led by a pastor repaired walkways to the entrance of the Wangtai Church in Haicheng City, in China’s northeastern Liaoning Province.
According to Pastor Sun Shuo, who has served in four township churches of Haicheng for 15 years, the walkway leading to the Wangtai Church on the left bank of the lower reaches of the Taizi River was paved with bricks. It was damaged and had not been rebuilt for more than 20 years. It was difficult for believers to walk on when it was rainy or snowy.
The believers in the church came together to rebuild the walkways to the church. Some arrived at 6 o'clock in the morning. Some were local and others drove from Haicheng City. In this harvest season, some put their farm work on hold and others handed their vegetable businesses to their family members. An 85-year-old brother also came and insisted on doing whatever he could to help.
Under the hot sunlight, the volunteers leveled the ground, put sand down as a base, and carefully laid the red bricks. In just half a day, about three-quarters of the construction was completed. As planned, the work took a day to complete.
Although these volunteers were tired and hot, they were very happy and some sang hymns softly while working. A 69-year-old man, who was working with a shovel, said: "The church has limited funds, but it would be nice to build a concrete road once and for all."
