Documentary 'Retrospecting: The 500th Anniversary of the Reformation': Ep.02 'John Calvin and Those Forgotton Reformers'

As the Reformation movement immigrated from Germany to Switzerland, what does modern democracy relate to the Reformation? What does the new Christian ethical life have to do with modern capitalism? What is the internal correlation between the Calvinists and the rise of the prosperity gospel? Since all Reformers valued education, particularly theological education, why does education, especially theological education matter so much?

Documentary 'Retrospecting: The 500th Anniversary of the Reformation': Ep.01 'Martin Luther - The Reformer Who Has Changed the Times'

The Reformation originated from Mysticism. The very people who struggled with God throughout their whole lives found themselves in His light, continuously keeping influencing others and the world. Martin Luther, also a musician, deeply impacted Johann Sebastian Bach with his theology. Luther was a theologian who liberated women and encouraged them to be educated. If he lived in our times, he would have been a supporter of feminism (not today’s so-called radical feminism). His love for his wife Katharina von Bora surpassed the limitations of that era’s law, and he left all his legacy to her even though it was illegal to do so.

The documentaries are produced by Elizabeth Pan Leilei & Edward Wang Xin. CCD reprints them from their Wechat platform “E2Studio”.

Trailer: Christian Autobiological Documentary

Soon after the Chinese New Year holiday in mid-February, a Christian director released his autobiographical documentary themed “social pressure to marry”, filmed over 10 years. “The 10-year filming consisted of three initial years of taking photos, and the rest of shooting videos. After 60 days, it has been edited into a film of 95 minutes. This is my story with the documentary ‘Flight of the Honeybees’, my story with parents and relatives as well as the true story of being pushed to get married by my family and relatives. It adopts listening as its documenting style, so the director is both a listener and a recorder”, said its director Geng Haiyang.
