On Oct 27, 2016, a fourteen-person mission including James Willie Rapp, president of the advisory committee of Week of Compassion of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and Dr. Xiaoling Zhu, Global Ministries Executive for East Asia and the Pacific, visit China, according to the State Administration for Religious Affairs.
The Vice Minister of the state administration, Zhongrong Chen, meets the delegation and introduces the policy freedom of religious belief in China and that Chinese government supports the efforts of the religious community engaging in charity career. He claims that China promotes and encourages Chinese churches to communicate with overseas religious organizations based on equality and friendship.
CCC&TSPM reports that on the second day, the mission visits Yanjing Theological Seminary. The both sides introduce each other.
Week of Compassion is the relief, refugee and development mission fund of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada, according to its official website. It seeks to equip and empower disciples to alleviate the suffering of others through disaster response, humanitarian aid, sustainable development and the promotion of mission opportunities.
