Several church leaders are reported to be preparing their things needed for the Ash Wednesday, March 1.
"Basic liturgy, or order of services, is scripture reading, the putting of ashes on the forehead of those who come forward and then holy communion," Pastor Rick Terry of Good Shepherd Anglican Church said.
Ashes are said to be symbolling two things. It reminds us the truth about being mortal and that we came from dust thus, we will return to dust.
"Then, when infants, kids or adults are baptized, there's a symbol of the cross but it's done with anointing oil, and that's a symbol that you are sealed with the holy spirit in baptism and marked as Christ's own forever," he added. "That's an invisible sign that the unseen world, God, sees that we're marked as Christ's own forever. The ashes remind us we are all mortal, but the other sign done in oil is a reminder that we are Christ's and there is hope of eternal life and resurrection after we die. So there's kind of a double meaning of the ashes with the cross and oil with the cross when we are baptized."
All people from all over the world are expected to join in the annual Ash Wednesday tradition tomorrow.
