Everything ceases for a moment at some point. Even our mental capacity reaches a standstill. There will be moments where we just can't think of anything anymore, and it is not that we don't try, it's just that we have come to our wits end.

It happens.

Ideas run out. Decision making malfunctions. Thoughts aren't free flowing.

When our mind reaches a momentary halt, what do we do?

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given you. -James 1:5 NIV

The Amplified Bible translates the first part as, If any of you lacks wisdom [to guide him through a decision or circumstance.

We don't always know what to do. But God does.

The passage from James is an open invitation from Him to encourage us to ask Him for the guidance that we need to process ideas and solutions.

He does not find fault. What does this mean? It means that no matter what situation you need wisdom for, He will grant it to you. It could be a small thing and it could be a huge ordeal. It doesn't matter as long as you ask for wisdom will be given to you.

Just ask.

Here's what happens when you do ask according to Proverbs 2:1-11:

My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying you heart to understanding-indeed, if you call for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He holds success in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones. Then you will understand what is right and just and fair-every good path. For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you.(NIV)

The wisdom that comes from God is what gave Joshua, the successor of Moses, victory after victory, beginning from the city of Jericho. It is the wisdom of God that continually established David to be the king of Israel, defeating one army after another and conquering one city after another. It was the wisdom of God that enabled Solomon to write the book of proverbs.

God's wisdom do not have limitations. He can perfectly deal with wars involving real soldiers. He's also perfectly capable of giving us the wisdom we need to fight our internal and external battles.

God is wisdom. So, how do we gain it? Through the Word of God, the Holy Bible.

Reading His Word is a way to listen to His voice. It is a way we can obtain wisdom.

That is why the Lord says to Joshua,

Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. -Joshua 1:8 NIV
