Recently, a church in China’s northwestern Shaanxi Province held prayer meetings for the flood-struck Henan Province.
Shengli Road Church in Baoji, Shaanxi, gathered nearly 100 believers who come from Henan to pray for the rainstorms and floods in their hometown on the morning of July 23, followed by a special prayer meeting the next afternoon.
In the second day’s prayer meeting, a female believer surnamed Meng led others in singing the hymn Here We Have the Presence of God.
Next, Rev. Zhou Shunli prayed, "Dear Lord, please have mercy on Henan people who are in deadly danger and whose properties are badly damaged, as the rainstorm has caused floods which have destroyed their cities and houses.
"Lord, we believe only you can stop the disaster and let the flood recede. We plead with you to give peace and strength to the people in danger, comfort those who have lost their families so that they can get out of the predicament and return to a normal life as soon as possible.
"Lord, please protect soldiers in the front line and the volunteers and staff who go to Henan for disaster relief. Give them the wisdom to find each missing person and strength to transport trapped people to safety. Let us raise our hands to pray for Henan: Peace in Henan! Peace in Zhengzhou!"
After the intercession, Rev. Zhou led the congregation in singing songs, including Rock Rock Jesus Christ.
The record-breaking rainstorms have caused 99 deaths and five missings as of Thursday afternoon, affecting more than 13.91 million people and 1.04 million hectares of crops.
