Last Sunday was special to Zhangzhou Beimen Church in China's southeastern-coastal Fujian Province. The senior pastor of Guangzhou Dongshan Church led the fifth choir and the congregation to worship the Lord, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Zhangzhou church.
Beimen Church in Zhangzhou was formerly a family gathering place. In 2001, the believers rented a 60-square-meter office in Zhangzhou Glass Factory for gatherings during Easter. Pastor Huang Lihong, Elder Li Mingxi, and dozens of other believers studied the Bible with prayers and preached the gospel there. The numbers of churchgoers increased to around 70.
In 2003, a grain warehouse in Nankeng, Zhangzhou, was finally used as a new meeting point, and it became a fixed place that met the six requirements for setting up a registered church. On March 17, 2001, the Xiangcheng District Bureau of Religious Affairs formally approved the establishment of the "Christian North Gate Chapel in Xiangcheng District, Zhangzhou City."
The new church was built in September 2010 at the intersection of Xinhua North Road and Zhanghua Road in Xiangcheng District and was dedicated on October 6, 2017. With a total construction area of about 10,594 square meters (15.8 acres), it can accommodate 5,000 people. The church is the largest Christian church and a new landmark of modern architecture in Zhangzhou.
