In early June, Beijing Chongwenmen Church held an online prayer meeting with the theme of "Unfold Heavenly Wings".
Many pastoral staff of the church shared on the theme, interspersed with prayers and praise, which lasted an hour and a half.
The Prayer Meeting began with the song, "I Worship in Here", and then Pastor Liu, the senior pastor, shared and gave encouragement.
Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees. Make level paths for your feet, so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed. (Hebrews 12:12-13)
Pastor Liu Cuimin, the church's senior pastor, asked about the spiritual life of her listeners during this special period in the sermon. Were there persons with many problems? For example, a family might have many problems because they lacked love for each other. They may complain, abuse, and even hurt each other. The atmosphere was very bad, and the relationship between them was also intense.
Pastor Liu said: "There are problems within Christian families, in marriages, at work which may upset us or cause us to be anxious. These things affect our relationship with God. We might be depressed, discouraged or be weak. May God use His words to inspire us, strengthen our feeble arms and weak knees, and change our spiritual and living conditions."
How do we build a more intimate relationship with God? Pastor Liu said that it could be done through reading, praying, and meeting together. She pointed out that during this time, some brothers and sisters could not participate in worship and gradually lost their zeal for God, which impacts our faith.
First built in 1870, Chongwenmen Church was then called Asbury Church. It was the first church constructed by the American Methodist Church in northern China. It was originally designed to hold 400 to 500 people. Although the church appears now as it did back then, its current seating capacity is 2,000 people.
