On May 11, the Jilin CC&TSPM and the People ’s Government of Dongsanjiazi Mongolian Township in Songyuan City’s Qian Gorlos Mongol Autonomous County signed an agreement that commissions the construction and supervision of a well that will provide water during times of drought.
Pang Lei, secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Dongsanjiazi Township, Qianguo County, introduced the local situation. Dongsanjiazi Township is located 93 kilometers southwest of Qianguo County, with a total area of 256.9 square kilometers. It governs 9 administrative villages and 30 natural villages. The northern part of Dongsanjiazi Township is covered in sand dunes from east to west. The township has a total cultivated area of 12,000 hectares, and the main crop is corn. Due to the severe water shortage and sandy soil, there is year-round drought and low agricultural crop yields, which keeps Dongsanjiazi Township relatively backward.
In recent years, in order to solve the drought problem, the local government has raised funds to drill wells and install electric pumps. After hard work, 360 wells have been completed, but 240 more wells need to be drilled to serve the whole township. Because the groundwater level is more than 80 meters deep, and some places more than 100 meters deep, the cost of drilling wells continues to increase. At present, the cost of drilling a well and equipping it with an electric pump and other needed mechanical equipment costs 20,000 yuan.
Jilin CC&TSPM and Dongsanjiazi Township Government signed an agreement to donate 220,000 yuan for to dig 11 wells, complete with all the necessary equipment, that will guarantee a steady supply of water. They have entrusted the Dongsanjiazi Township Government with the responsibility of project and quality supervision.
Due to the impact of the epidemic, the churches in Jilin Province have been closed and worship services have been suspended. The funds for the anti-drought well project came from the following churches: 100,000 yuan was donated by Beijing Road Christian Church in Chuanying District, Jilin City; 40,000 yuan was donated by Park Road Christ Church, Erdao District, Changchun City; 40,000 yuan was donated by Fumin Christian Church, Fumin Street, Meihekou City; 20,000 yuan from, Songhui Road Christ Church, Chaoyang District, Changchun City; 20,000 yuan from East Sanma Road Christ Church, Nanguan District, Changchun City. The wells will be dug from May 12 to 30, and the acceptance date is June 5.
