Following its 12-year-long tradition, the Beimen Church of Fujian invited about 300 disadvantaged people to have a free dinner on February 4, 2018, the Chinese New Year's Eve.
Starting from just a dozen participants in 2004, the number has increased every year. This year the guests included lonely elderly people, the disabled, poor families, migrant sanitation workers, and bachelors. They ate together around tables in the church which is the largest in Zhangzhou.
Two weeks ago more than 20 volunteers became involved in the ministry. They spent two days preparing for the meals as a Christian practice of loving your neighbor as yourself.
The church's pastor welcomed them and afterwards the church staff also participated together in a prize draw. Extra meals were packed to be distributed to people in need.
