The memorial service for Professor Mo Ruxi, former vice dean of Nanjing Union Theological Seminary (NUTS), was held in Nanjing Saint Paul's Church on March 12, 2018. It was presided over by Rev. Chen Bin, vice-president of the seminary.
Mo died of pneumonia in Nanjing, aged 95, on March 3.
Kan Renping, chairman of the Nanjing TSPM and senior pastor of Saint Paul's Church, summarized her life as a kernel of wheat that fell to the ground and produced many seeds in the sermon part. "Professor Mo never spoke spiritual words, but lived out a godly life."He said.
Kan shared a few moving stories about her service in Saint Paul's Church. After the church was reopened in 1985, she kept Sunday worship despite suffering a skin allergy for two months and did little things to serve the congregation. "The kids loved her, calling her Granny Mo. It was because she often brought them eggs from home and led them to color Easter eggs at Easter."
There was one more impressive thing. To catch buses, some believers had to leave church before the benediction part in a Sunday service. Standing at the church entrance, she exhorted them to leave after the benediction since it belonged to a complete service order.
Rev. Lin Peiling, NUTS' professor in the Old Testament and Mo's son-in-law, expressed gratitude for the participants as the representative of her family. She shared that Prof. Mo was also a translator and a proofreader, which is unknown. She joined in the compilation of English dictionaries and the translation of the Dead Scrolls, as one of the first batches of Chinese Christian women who paid a foreign visit.
She married Xu Dingxin,a senior professor in the Old Testament and Hebrew, and had two daughters.
