Christian dancer Liao Zhi shared her life-changing story in a TV show broadcast on CCTV-3. What was more, she played a popular Christian hymn, Footsteps, sung by Amy Sand.
She recalled her experience during the 2008 Wenchuan Earthquake where she lost both of her legs, her baby child, and mother-in-law. Afterwards, her husband divorced her.
She called her daughter "Tongtong" again and again in the darkness after being buried underground for more than 30 hours, but there was no reply. She was rescued in the evening of the second day.
Liao was the single survivor of the building where she lived, grateful for only losing her legs compared to those who lost their lives in the disaster.
After the earthquake, she reappeared on the stage with new artificial limbs, inspired by her love of dancing. She also tried new sports like running marathons and climbing snow-capped mountains.
The show's guests said that she was a different person. Liao was thankful for encountering her current husband, her prosthetic technician, having a new baby, and her happy marriage. Her husband claimed that he loved the way she was whether she had legs or not.
