Affected by the heavy rainfall in the Sichuan Basin, rivers in Chongqing had greatly exceeded the flood-stage level. At 2 in the afternoon of August 18, the Flood-Level II emergency response in Chongqing was upgraded to Level I. It was the first time they initiated a Flood-Level I emergency response since records. The Yangtze River hit its highest level in the past 39 years.
As the flood passed through the central city of Chongqing, some roads along the river were flooded, according to the Holy Grace Church in Chongqing.
The church invited Christians to raise their holy hands and pray together:
O Lord Almighty, our God, you sit in the high heavens and reign, and your kingdom rules over the whole earth! Please open your eyes and listen to the prayers of your children. Let our cry reach your throne!
Lord, please don't get angry and remember our sins forever. Please look down upon us, because we are all your people.
Lord, have mercy on our country and compatriots. The floods in the south have not stopped, and the north has experienced heavy rain. The people are in great danger and hardship.
Please remember the suffering of the people, share your kindness and blessing. Please stop the flood and reach out to rescue us!
Lord, may you display your power, strength and glory in all these disasters so people can see your deeds and acknowledge you, the high and holy One.
That more Chinese people may humble themselves in front of you, abandon vain idols and break worldly chains. We pray that they will turn to you with all their hearts, and enjoy the peace that transcends all understanding in Jesus Christ! Lord, our God, "Your way is perfect, and the word of the Lord is flawless; you will be a shield to those who take refuge in you."
For who is God besides the Lord? And who is the Rock except our God? It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect.
You make my feet like the feet of a deer and enable me to stand on the heights. We praise you, look up to you, and wait for you!
We pray together in the holy name of the Lord Jesus Christ! Amen!
And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.” (Exodus 34:6)
