According to online news reports, since June a total of 433 rivers across the country are in danger of reaching flood levels. The first flood of this year occurred in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River and Yellow River, the Xijiang and Beijiang rivers in the Pearl River Basin, and Taihu Lake. Although the flood situation in the river basin has been temporarily relieved in the past few days, flood prevention still needs to be taken seriously. So far 38.73 million people have been affected. In view of this situation, Christians will follow the example of Christ— that is, to love your neighbor as yourself —and to pray for the victims of the disaster.
Below is the prayer:
Dear God our Father, You are the God of salvation and of love. I will praise your name for ever and ever. You are the God who made heaven and earth and who gives us life, joy, and peace, and may all be saved through you, and not anyone perish. Please show your power and send the Holy Spirit to redeem us sinners. During this time of great suffering and hardship for China, please be concerned about the world and its people that you have created, have compassion on those of us who do not deserve it, and listen to our prayers.
O great and awesome God, who is full of power and might and who sits enthroned over the floods, give peace, love and comfort to your people, so that they may be comforted when they need to move because of the flooding. Please give strength, courage and wisdom to those in power, the People's Liberation Army and volunteers who fight on the frontline of flood control, so that they have the strength to defend their homes. May more people, in this difficult time, ponder their lives, examine themselves, know the Lord Jesus Christ, trust in Him, and enjoy the joy of being with God.
Dear Lord, you are aware of our weakness. Be always with us. In this challenging year of 2020, continue to be our lamp and the light on our path, to have compassion on us, to care for us, and to guide us. As it is written in the Holy Bible, “In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Lord, strengthen our hearts so that we may have peace in you. In the name of the Lord. Amen.
