Wang Lin was called a bad woman for portraying "Aunty Xue(a villain in Qiongyao's novels )." Now nearly fifty, it is impossible to find the least bit of bad in this gentle and beautiful woman. Even "Aunty Xue" has become a nickname with kindness.
Wang shared her conversion story in a recent interview. In 2011, Wang talked about her painful divorce on a talk show. "I was in a bad state and depressed." Cheng Mingming, a good friend of Wang's, a devoted Christian and a well-known HK star, had started "Artists Christian Fellowship," a fellowship that evangelizes to artists and celebrities. Cheng introduced Wang to the Bible study where she encountered Christianity for the first time.
"It was a very special experience and my first time listening to and singing sacred music. I didn't know what the songs were about but I couldn't stop my tears. Turned out it was the love of the Heavenly Father, and I was touched by the Holy Spirit. I felt that God would always love me."
At first she was merely interested in the Christian faith, but later it changed her life and worldview. Cheng Mingming gave her a cross which she always keeps with her. When she doesn't know whether she can keep going when shooting in extremely harsh environments, she prays holding the cross, asking God for strength. She has kept on filming and glorifying God with her active working attitude and works.
Wang admits that she was not very popular after playing "Aunt Xue." The second year after her divorce the "Aunt Xue Meme" went viral very suddenly and made her an "internet star" over night. After that her life was turned around and she had more roles and income. "Thank God! I felt the Heavenly Father helping me every step of the way and watching me move forward. He gave me a reward because he always loves me," she said.
Wang wasn't baptized even a long time after she became a Christian. However, she always has a heart of devotion and insists on going to the Bible study at ACF. Before she always thought she was not good enough on many issues, so she was never baptized. An experience on the reality TV show "Sisters over Flowers" strengthened her determination for baptism, however.
Participating in a reality show is not easy: "17 flights in 25 days and 3 to 4 hours of sleep every day. I encountered many challenges then like losing things and my credentials and getting sick. Also the communication between people, pressure from public opinion..." Wang prayed every day asking God for help. She and the cast went to an Abbey Hotel in Peru and Wang was surrounded by sacred music. "Suddenly I felt warm, like I was at home. There was also peace in my heart and I was no longer afraid. I sent texts to my pastor and Cheng, telling them I desperately wanted to be baptized. I wanted to become God's daughter, a princess of heaven."
