A Nanjing disabled home held an outdoor gathering and picnic for 16 families of Christians and disabled children.
Joined by Christian families and a youth development center in Nanjing, Jiangsu, Nanjing 'Hand-in-Hand' Home for Disabled Single-Child Families held the event two days before the Dragon Boat Festival, which falls on June 14.
At 9:50 in the morning, these special children, together with Christians, gathered on the mountain-facing corridor of the Nanjing Xuanwu Lake Park. Each family came on stage to perform, sing and dance.
After the performance, besides chatting and walking around, they played fun games.
At lunchtime, volunteers prepared a meal for all the families. Nearly a hundred people were divided into 16 groups for meals according to their families. While tasting delicious food, they shared their life experiences. Many parents and children said that this event gave them an early and unforgettable Dragon Boat Festival.
These disabled single-child families each have only one injured or disabled child, and no longer bear or adopt other kids.
Established in 2017, the disabled home has carried out cultural and entertainment activities to accompany these families in establishing helpful relationships, providing psychological counseling and assistance to them, thereby enabling them integrate into society.
