To mark the 86th anniversary of the 1931 Mukden Incident (also known as the Manchurian Incident), Heilongjiang Theological Seminary held a flag-raising ceremony, lowering the flag to half-mast in memory of the martyrs.
All the faculty and students watched as the national flag was raised before the seminary's chapel.
In 1931, a dispute near Mukden (now Shenyang) led to the Japanese invasion of northeastern China, also known as Manchuria.
The ceremonies helped the seminary reconnect to the history and national humiliation.
Founded in 1996, the seminary now has a campus at the Mount of Olives. Also, it is the only seminary in China that accepts and trains deaf students to become pastors for the deaf community.
