On August 20,2016, Puqian Church held the summer baptism service and about 60 seekers were baptized by sprinkling and by being immersed in water.
Sina reported that it was founded by Stephen Johnson, a missionary from the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions (ABCFM), as the first church in Fuzhou. In 1947, a celebration ceremony was held here to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Christianity into the city.
In 1959, the church was moved to a small place under the circumstance of the "Great -Leap Period" and it was completely shut down, occupied by a factory in the Cultural Revolution in 1966. It reopened in 1990 and changed its name to "Puqian Church". Four years later, it had 2000 believers and was demolished in 2008. It moved to another place and started reconstruction.
