A Fujian Christian volunteer service center paid a visit to leprosy survivors.
On December 23, a group of four from Xiamen Ren’ai Love Service Center drove to the “Leprosy Rehabiliation Village” in Tongan District, Xiamen, Fujian. Seeing the staff workers, the old people kept saying “thanks” and “welcome" in a South Fujian language, according to the center.
Pies, cereals, emergency lanterns and New Year's calendars were sent to the elderly. A volunteer demonstrated the use of emergency lanterns. The elderly said this solar-powered "flashlight" was going to be useful in their lives.
An elderly person aged 89 became depressed after his wife passed away, so every time they visited, the staff workers spent time chatting with him. He shared about how he used to read, write, and sing to the wild mountains to relieve his boredom.
In 2013, led by the Civil Affairs Bureau of Tong'an District, the staff of the center first came to visit the "Leprosy Rehabiliation Village" behind Fengnan Farm. As of 2021, it is the eighth year however last year’s visit was suspended due to COVID-19.
