As Shanxi Province experienced the strongest autumn flood ever recorded from October 2 to 7, CCC&TSPM and Amity Foundation provided financial support and supplies to its affected areas.
After the disaster, CCC&TSPM (China Christian Council & Three-Self Patriotic Movement) contacted the disaster-stricken people to inquire about the situation, allocating 438,900 yuan to Wan'an Town for the reconstruction of villagers’ houses and repair of damaged roads, the social service department of CCC&TSPM reported.
Wan'an Town is located in Xinjiang County, Yuncheng City, Shanxi Province, with a population of 19,327 in 10 administrative villages. The flood hit four villages in the town, with 8,108 people evacuated and 322 hectares of farmland flooded.
Joining hands with several donation channels on online platforms, the Amity Foundation, a faith-based social organization, raised more than 5.15 million yuan for Shanxi from October 9 to 25. The charity supplied many kinds of relief materials to 14 towns (or townships) in four cities, including oil, flour, rain boots, drinking water, disinfectant and daily necessities package (including towels, slippers, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap and toilet paper), as well as rice, beds, and mattresses.
At present, Amity's assistance to Shanxi is still ongoing. Many batches of grain and oil, heaters and other materials would be shipped to Fenxi County, Yonghe County and Anze County in Linfen City. Next, the foundation planned to provide some cotton-padded clothes and trousers to the children of local disaster-affected families, helping them survive the harsh winter, the charity said.
