Many rural churches in Shanxi Province were damaged by continuous heavy rainfall which caused floods and other disasters.
China’s northern Shanxi Province has seen unusually heavy rain in recent days, with the accumulated rainfall in most parts of the province from October 2 to 6 exceeding 100 millimeters and some surpassing 200 mm. The province has issued Level III emergency response for natural disasters last Wednesday following casualties in collapsing houses and landslides triggered by the rain, according to China Daily.
According to Gospel Times, an online Chinese Christian newspaper, Elder Yue Yinshan, director of the Linyi County TSPM and the head of Linyi County Church, said that the heavy rainfall had a great impact on the local areas. The foundation of a gathering point in a township had collapsed, and the ground, walls and gate tower had cracked, which meant that believers couldn’t meet there. They were connecting with other grassroots churches which were slightly damaged to collect statistics.
