The memorial service for Rev. Deng Fucun, the deceased former deputy chairman of TSPM, was held.
On May 9, Hangzhou Gulou Church in Zhejiang Province hosted the service for its former senior pastor, according to Hangzhou CC&TSPM.
Born into a Christian family, Rev. Deng's parents were both missionaries. His grandfather was a deacon of a church of the China Inland Mission. Baptized as a child and receiving confirmation at 16, he became an active member of a youth fellowship. Determined to study theology after graduating from high school, he served as a pastor for his entire life after training at the Central Theological Seminary at Shanghai St. John's University in 1950.
Deng, the sixth deputy chairman and secretary-general, and the seventh resident deputy chairman of China Three-Self Patriotic Movement (TSPM), died of illness on February 16 after failing to respond to medical treatment at age 92.
Presided over by Rev. Hu Quanyuan, secretary-general and vice-chairman of Hangzhou TSPM, the service included a sermon titled “Gloried to Return to the Heavenly Home”, preached by Rev. Chen Xiaolang, secretary-general and vice-chairman of Zhejiang TSPM.
Rev. Shan Weixiang, vice-president & general-secretary of China Christian Council, gave a speech, while Rev. Zhang Yaofa, president of Hangzhou CC and senior pastor of Gulou Church, introduced his life.
