Upon the invitation of the YWCA (the Young Women's Christian Association) of Japan, a three-person delegation of the YWCA of China joined a three-day pilgrimage that focused on building peace in Hiroshima from August 8 to 12, 2017. A total of 49 people including teenagers, members, volunteer leaders from London and Japan, and representatives from the YWCA of South Korea attended it.
A report from the Xi'an YWCA said that the theme of the pilgrimage was "the Root of Peace from Hiroshima." Citing the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, the sponsors led the participants to visit Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and the relics of the atomic bombing like the A-Bomb Dome and the nuclear explosion resource room of the Hiroshima-Teishin Hospital. They listened to the stories of the atomic bomb victims and engaged in four sharing and communication workshops.
The representatives from the countries reflected on the relations between Japanese militarism and why an atomic bomb was dropped in Hiroshima.
In addition, the Chinese side introduced the Nanjing Peace Pilgrimage to be held in Nanjing in March 2018 to the Japanese adolescents, inviting them to take part in it.
