A man has been trying to invite 5,000 best men and 5,000 bridesmaids on the streets of the Chinese city of Chengdu in the hopes of setting a Guinness World Record for marriage attendance.
According to China Daily, Wang Jiang appeared on the streets holding a poster encouraging people to sign up as his best men by kneeling down and writing "Mother-in-law is mother" in Mandarin or Sichuanese a hundred times. He said it is a reminder for all husbands and wives to respect their mother-in-laws like they would their own mothers.
"I hope my wedding can be an opportunity for all the best men and bridesmaids who are single to know each other and have chemistry," Wang said.
The 38-year old Chengdu native will marry in February next year after eight years of trying to fin a potential wife.
So far, 600 men have already signed up to be best men while over a hundred have expressed commitment to be bridesmaids in the ceremony.
He also said that the wedding fees can be waived by sponsoring organizations and individuals. He also assured attendees that his bride and future mother-in-law is very supportive about his endeavor.
