The police authorities have appealed for an unknown man filmed cycling past a suspicious fire at the historic Geelong church to come forward and reveal himself.
The heritage-listed place, 103-year-old Presbyterian church was reported destroyed in the fire early last Friday.
Investigators have been told that a particular man, who might be a potential witness, rode near the Pakinton Street as scene of the fire in Geelong West, who stopped and watched the fire for a short period.
The said man spoke with another person, who has been interviewed by police now.
Detectives reported to have released a mobile phone footage of the unknown man riding past the fire scene.
The unknown man is described as a Caucasian, aged 30 years old and about 182 cm tall. During the fire scene, he was seen wearing a cap underneath his bike helmet, a black and white striped t-shirt under his blue hoodie, shorts and fingerless gloves. He was also seen carrying a light yellow or cream backpack.
Meanwhile, a church elder has told a new publishing that the community has been very devastated by the loss of their beloved church building.
"It's hard to know initially what to feel - we know it's quite a significant moment for the church," Luke McSeveny said.
