China's cabinet state council promised to promote medical research and development for traditional Chinese medicine on Sunday.
During the executive meeting of the State Council that was presided by Li Keqiang, more traditional medications and treatments will be added to the lists of national essential drugs.
According to the statement issued,there will be more policies and resources to support the research and development of traditional medicines that will include the conservation of the ancient historical medical texts, too.
The state encourages the pharmaceutical industry to use modern advancement of technology in researching the effectivity, results and to increase its potential. Furthermore, hospitals and medicine laboratories are encouraged to try and apply traditional therapies in treating complex diseases.
In addition to the state council statement, the private entities who practice traditional medicine will accept equal treatment as to the public medical practitioners and thus, the network will be expanded as well.
In line with this, the state has announced that they will double their efforts in finding way to treat cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases and that they will provide policy support in finances, government contracts and tax that supports more of the developing and marketing of the traditional medicines.
The public will have access to the national database of medicine that will include price and quality assessment along with this new policy.
