From October 16 to 18, 2015, The 2nd Amity Senior Service International Conference & Elderly Social Work Conference(ASSIC &ESW) was held in Nanjing. The Amity Foundation, Heren Charity Academy of Nanjing University, and the Jiangsu Christian Charity Fund hosted the conference with Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council , Japan Charity Association, Elderly Social Work Office of Arizona State University, and Shanghai Amity Research Center as the co-organizers and Germany Bread for the World as the fund supporter.
This conference invited more than twenty famous experts working in the elderly social ministry from China mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, US, Japan, German, and Australia. Also local social organizations that have experience in practice of caring the elderly attended the conference. There were also many church homes for the aged from Shandong, Henan, Jiangsu, Liaoning, Anhui and Dalian that joined the conference. Foreign and domestic experts and scholars exchanged their ideas in the following topics: the situation, trends and policy implications of geriatric social work, the practice of geriatric social work, caring for the aged in institutions, home caring for the aged in communities, caring for patients with Alzheimer's disease, continuing education and innovation service for the elderly, and hospice care.
The Amity Foundation signed a contract with Jiangsu Province Hospital declaring that they would cooperate to initiate the Amity Rengu Nursing Home, a nursing home combining medical care with recuperation for the aged.
The Amity Rengu International project plans to establish a model nursing home with first-class management and service within two or three years, This is on the basis that it has already over 9 million yuan welfare fund put in by the Amity Foundation and will receive 5 million yuan from the Foundation again with comprehensive medical management technology support from the Jiangsu Province Hospital.
Later, experts and scholars discussed the topics: the Three Foundations of Geriatric Social Work: Family, Empowerment and Empirical Evidence, Change Japanese Attitude toward Hospice Care, Systematical Experience and Lessons from US's Elderly's Projects and Service, and The Social Support Policy for the Long-Term Elderly Carers in Families. Then they introduced the situations and characteristics of international and domestic senior care.
The conference also arranged workshop activities led by senior experts such as "Evaluation and Case Management," "Facility Design for the Elderly," and "Community Participation and Action" and organized the industry groups to sign the proposal against the abuse of senior services to improve the senior service quality.
