Teens and guys who were in their early twenties 70 years ago now have become white-haired old men. Time may have diluted the memory, but the memory of the Japanese atrocities, which is of 72 years ago, is still difficult for the old people to calm down.
As of earlier August, there are 21 octogenarian and juniors who live in Zhu Qiao village, Shanghai Pudong, who came to the Catholic church in the village, as dictated by the Japanese atrocities that happened 72 years ago . The "yesterday reappear" is reported completely by Pudong local media.
According to the senior's recall, on August 8, 1943, in order to force the villagers to relinquish their anti-Japanese guerrillas, the Japanese held 273 villagers hostage in the church for a total of 35 days. Many people were shot or raped, even two babies died young.
Although, 72 years later, Cai Meisheng who was 24-year-old at that time still remember it well. According to his description, on the afternoon of August 8, 1943, more than 10 Japanese devils walked out from the Japanese troops in the command, armed with two local people, and threatened a ship to deliver rice to three Japanese positions. Local anti-Japanese guerrillas learned this intelligence and ambushed the Japanese army on the other side in order to intercept grain. The Japanese forced villagers to reveal the guerrillas' refuge and forced the villagers to accept account check on their knees every day. On August 9, the Japanese held villagers hostage within the church. To prevent someone escape or violent acts, the Japanese still set up machine guns in the church tower. A total of 273 villagers had to eat and even drink fecal matter within the church for 35 days until the patriots came to release them. In the 35 days, the villagers bore many atrocities which lead to some mental disorders, some incontinence, and even death. Two newborn babies died due to the lack of parenting and treatment conditions.
Now, the old people in the village came here to commemorate the victory of the war of resistance against Japan and told the young : "Remember history, don't forget national humiliation."
