Catholic Church in China: Under the Dual Tension between Sinicization and Catholicity, a new book by Liu Guopeng, deputy director of the Christian Studies Department of the Institute of World Religions at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), was published by the Social Sciences Academic Press (China) in February 2023.

The research in the book focuses on the contemporary Chinese Catholic Church (1978-2012) under the twofold tension between sinicization and Catholicity at the microscale and macroscale. It mainly examines and reflects on, under the dimensions and perspectives of both sinicization and Catholicity, the construction of the Chinese Catholic Church and the explorations it made, as well as its achievements and challenges.

Liu Guopeng is the deputy director of the Christian Studies Department of the Institute of World Religions as well as the deputy director and associate research fellow of the Center for the Study of Christianity at CASS. His other works include Celso Costantini and the Indigenization of the Catholic Church in China.
